Margaret Iskowitz 1920 - 2008 BENNINGTON, VT. - Margaret "Monie" Iskowitz, 88, widow of Manuel "Vic" Iskowitz, a lifelong resident, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 at Rivers Edge Community Care Home. Born in Bennington Jan. 9,1920, daughter of Irvin and Josie McNeil Elwell, she received her education in Bennington schools. Mr. and Mrs. Iskowitz were married July 19, 1941 at Camp Blanding in Stark, Fla. Mr. Iskowitz died Feb. 24, 1995. Mrs. Iskowitz was employed for many years at the former Paradise Restaurant in Bennington. She was later employed at K Mart until the time of her retirement. A lifelong member of the Second Congregational Church, Mrs. Iskowitz was also a member of Unit 13, American Legion Auxillary. Her home and family were her main interest. She leaves two sons, Gary Porter of Manchester and West Palm Beach, Fla., and Jay Iskowitz of Bennington; two daughters, Vicki Ohana of Guttenberg, N.J. and Sheila Shoemaker of Watertown, Conn.; eight grandchildren, Randy Porter, Peter Bresko, Laura Bresko, Erik Porter, Reuben Iskowitz, Roxy Iskowitz, Dana Hanger and Derek Shoemaker; two great-grandchildren, Andrew Porter and Brandon Porter; four nieces, Helen Randall, Marqua Burt, Phay Ann Simeone and Ina Lou Cohen and a nephew, Richard Elwell. Mrs. Iskowitz was predeceased by two grandsons, Russell Iskowitz and Stephen Bresko; a sister, Sarah Green, and two brothers, Richard and Arthur Elwell. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mary Lee Clark, pastor of the Second Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will take place in the Bennington Hebrew Cemetery. Should friends desire, contributions in Mrs. Margaret Iskowitz' memory may be made to one's favorite charity through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT. 05201. All members of Unit 13, American Legion Auxillary are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. to conduct services in memory of Margaret Iskowitz.]]>
