Margaret M. Kenny

1924 - 2015 SHELBURNE Margaret Mary Kenny, age 91, died on August 24, 2015 at The Arbors in Shelburne, VT after several years of declining health. She was born on March 20, 1924 in Bennington, the second of six children of Thomas B. and Celia (Conneely) Kenny. Margaret attended public and parochial schools in Bennington and graduated from Bennington High School in 1942 and St. Joseph's Business College in Bennington in 1944. Until her retirement in 1985, she was employed as a secretary with the National Carbon Company (later Union Carbide) in Bennington. In 2000, she relocated to South Burlington to be closer to family members. Margaret was a longtime member of St. Francis de Sales parish in Bennington, where she formerly served as a member of the parish council. After moving to South Burlington, she belonged to St. John Vianney parish. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Margaret gave generously of herself to her parents, siblings, and other family members and will be long remembered and sorely missed. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Brigid Eileen and Robert M. Gleason of Scituate, MA, and her brother, John P. Kenny of Albuquerque, NM. Margaret also is survived nieces and nephews, John K. Dunleavy of South Burlington, Maggie Dunleavy Dechant of LaCrosse, KS, James C. Kenny, II of Walpole, MA, Ellen Kenny Erdman of South Burlington, Peter S. Kenny of South Burlington, Sara Kenny Hunt of Shelburne, Brigid Gleason Keating of Colchester, CT, Michael P. Gleason of Hull, MA, Mary Gleason Harrigan of Scituate, MA, Robert T. Gleason of Duxbury, MA, Sean P. Kenny of Albuquerque, NM Megan C. Kenny of Eliot, ME and Kellie Kenny O'Brien of Fairbanks, Alaska. She also leaves cousins, grand-nieces, grandnephews and great-grandnephews. She was predeceased in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Sheila K. and John J. Dunleavy, her brother and sister-in-law, James C. and Lois (Stocker) Kenny, her brother, Thomas A. Kenny and her sister-in-law, Mary Anne (Eidenbach) Kenny. Margaret's family wants to thank all those who helped with her care over the past year, including the staffs of the Visiting Nurse Association of Chittenden and Grand Isle counties, Home Instead Senior Care of Shelburne, VT, Green Mountain Nursing Home of Colchester, VT and The Arbors. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be held on Saturday, August 29, at 11a.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Interment will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10A.M. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church Maintenance Fund through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
