BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Margaret “Peg” Burpee Moore, widow of Thomas Francis Moore Jr., a longtime resident of Bennington and a communicant of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington, died peacefully on Thursday evening, Oct. 27, 2005, at home, surrounded by her family.

She was born March 24, 1922, in East Orange, N.J., and was the daughter of the late Thomas Francis Burpee Sr. and Edith Roberts Burpee. She received her schooling in New Rochelle, N.Y., and is a graduate of the New Rochelle High School.

Mr. and Mrs. Moore were married on Jan. 2, 1947 in the St. Catherine’s Chapel in Pelham Manor, N.Y. Mr. Moore died April 3, 2003.

She devoted most of her life to raising and caring for their 11 children. Not until the youngest was in school did she go to work outside the home. She worked for many years in the admitting office at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington. She also did bookkeeping and insurance billing for many area doctors.

Known for her gentle soul, and kind and loving spirit, she was a devout Catholic whose faith in God kept her smiling.

She is survived by her 11 children, Thomas F. Moore III of Lakeville, Conn., Patrick M. Moore of Bennington, James J. Moore of Canaan, N.Y., Mary Corey of St. Simons Island, Ga., Margaret Outwater of Bennington, Theresa A. Moore of Manassas, Va., Matthew Moore of Dorset, Maureen Moore-Bond of Homer, Alaska, Kathleen Moore of North Fort Myers, Fla., Laura Moore of Williamstown, Mass. and Joseph F. Moore of Saratoga, N.Y.; 22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas Francis Burpee Jr. of Pelham. She is predeceased by a sister, Mary Burpee Paul, and a grandson, Samuel F. Moore.

A Mass of Christian death will be offered today, Oct. 31, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington with the Rev. Vincent Coppola, csc, assistant pastor, officiating.

Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. There will not be any calling hours.
