Margaret P. Powell 1908 - 2008 BENNINGTON Margaret P. Powell, 100, formerly of Willow Road, died peacefully Sunday morning Sept. 28, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt. Margaret was born in Springfield Township, Burlington County, N.J. on July 22, 1908 daughter of Alfred and Ella Alston Parker. She received her education in Mt. Holly N.J., graduating from Mt. Holly High School. Margaret went on to Glassboro State Normal School which is now Rowan University and attended Trenton State College. After earning her degree in elementary education she taught school in Mt Holly from 1928-1931, and Burlington Township from 1931-1940, also acting as school principal. She moved to Bennington, Vt., to enjoy retirement in June, 1969 and became very active within the community. She was very involved with AARP for seventeen years, and also served as treasurer. She was a member of Circle IV of the First United Methodist Church and was a volunteer for RSVP. She loved the mountains of Vermont, including a tree which stood outside her window at the Centers for Living and rehabilitation, where she enjoyed watching the leaves change color. She loved reading, crocheting and in her earlier years was an avid flower gardener. Margaret leaves her children, Margaret Parsons, of New Castle, Del., Mary Lee Scarff, and her husband, William, of Brooksville, Fla., and Janis L. Quattrocelli, and her husband Dan, of Brimfield, Mass., seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Powell, to whom she married in New Jersey on Aug. 24, 1930. Mr. Powell died in 1996. FUNERAL NOTICE: At Margaret's request there will be no formal funeral services.
