Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Margaret S. McLellan, 91, of McKinley Street and formerly of Walloomsac Road, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 12, 2004, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Chatham, New Brunswick, Canada on Oct. 4, 1913, the daughter of David and Margaret Isobel (Dickie) Sadler. She attended local school there and later attended the Royal Victoria Hospital Nursing School in Montreal, Canada.

Mrs. McLellan was a dedicated volunteer. She worked as a volunteer for both the literacy group and the Tutorial Center in Bennington. She was a supporter of the Bennington Free Library and was a hospital volunteer for over 25 years, receiving her 25-year pin for service in New Rochelle, N.Y.

She enjoyed reading, music - both listening and as an accomplished pianist - and literature. She loved gardening. She was a member of the New Rochelle Garden Club and was known for her award-winning flower arrangements and her garden.

She married Dr. Frederick C. McLellan on Feb. 15, 1936. Dr. McLellan died May 4, 1989. Dr. and Mrs. McLellan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1986.

She is survived by a son, Dr. John M. McLellan and his wife Dianne of Bennington; two daughters, Catherine Rogers and her husband James of Loudenville, N.Y. and Margaret Iverson and her husband Neal of Queensbury, N.Y.; and her sister-in law, Shirley Sadler of St. John, New Brunswick, Canada.

She was grandmother to 11 children and great-grandmother to six children.

Funeral services for Mrs. McLellan will be held Saturday afternoon, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bennington. The Rev. Canon Robert Miner will conduct the service. Interment will be in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, Canada.
