Margaret T. Elvin 1906 - 2008 BENNINGTON, VT. - Margaret Thurston Elvin, 101, died Feb. 5 at Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield, Mass.. She was a resident of The Village at Fillmore Pond. Born Dec. 27, 1906 in Providence, R.I., the daughter and only child of Frank G. and Elizabeth G. Moffitt Thurston, her family moved to Riverside, R.I., where she was raised. Mrs. Elvin was a trained pianist and vocalist. She taught piano in her home for many years, and was a long-tenured director of the choir of the First Congregational Church in Bristol, R.I. She married Arthur Leishman Elvin on May 12, 1941. They made their home in Riverside and lived there until 1989, when they moved to Providence. She collected antique dolls and made clothing for them. She and her husband collected antique post cards, and were members of the Rhode Island Post Card Club. They made many lasting friendships through these hobbies, and were active members of Hamilton House, a senior center in Providence, where Mrs. Elvin taught quilting. In 1990, they moved to Williamstown, Mass., where she served for several years on Williamstown's Council on Aging, and belonged to the Friendship Club, and was a member of Friendship Knot Quilters. She was a member of the First Congregational Church. She leaves a son, the Rev. Peter T. Elvin and her daughter-in-law, Diana M. Elvin, of Williamstown, and two grandsons, Andrew D. Elvin of Burlington, and Alexander M. Elvin of North Adams, Mass. FUNERAL NOTICE - Services will be held in Bristol, R.I., at the First Congregational Church, 281 High Street, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23. Interment will follow at the North Burial Ground.
