Marguerite "Muvvy" Carmody

1917 - 2010 BENNINGTON, VT Marguerite "Muvvy" Loveday Carmody, 92, a former longtime resident of Bennington and Hobe Sound, Fla., died Saturday, May 8, 2010, surrounded by her family at the Village at Fillmore Pond.

Born in Rutland on Oct. 7, 1917, she was the daughter of Thomas and Harriet Ross Loveday. Mrs. Carmody received her education in the Rutland schools.

Marguerite married John T. Carmody on April 26, 1939, at Saint Peter's Church in Rutland. Mr. Carmody died October 17, 1997.

Mrs. Carmody taught dance throughout Southern Vermont and was a physical education teacher at the former Bennington Catholic High School.

She was an avid golfer and was a member of Eaglewood Country Club in Hobe Sound, Fla., and was a former member of Mount Anthony, Manchester and Equinox Country Clubs. Muvvy was a member of Saint Christopher's Catholic Church in Hobe Sound, Fla.

She leaves six children and their spouses, John T. Carmody Jr. and Miriam of Hobe Sound, Fla., Marilyn Mahar and Alexander of Bennington, Michael J. Carmody and Joan of Hobe Sound, Fla., Patricia C. McKeon and Mark of Bedford, N.H., Thomas J. Carmody and Susan of Bennington and Kathleen C. Robertson and Neil of Wilton, Conn.; 26 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by four sisters, Loretta McCue, Eileen Pockette, Esther Rabidou and Harriet Willard.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 10 a.m., where the Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. The burial will take place in the family lot in the Old Bennington Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Monday, May 10, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

If friends desire, contributions in memory of Muvvy may be made to either the Village at Fillmore Pond or VNA and Hospice at Southwestern Vermont Health Care through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
