Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Maria A. Alexander were held from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church where the Mass of Resurrection was offered by the Rev. James Preskenis, Pastor.

The organist was Donald McMahon who was accompanied on the violin by Mrs. Alexander’s granddaughter, Michelle. Musical selections offered during the mass were “Amazing Grace,” “Prayer of Saint Francis,” “Be Not Afraid,” and “Here I am Lord.” A grandson-in-law, John Connell, sang “How Great Thou Art.”

Serving as acolytes were Dr. Barth Vander Els, Leonard Anzivino, Bernard Bourgeois and Francis Sausville.

The casket pall was placed on Mrs. Alexander’s casket by her daughters, MaryAnn Ames, Pattie Alexander, Joan Shaplin and Jane Alexander. A wooden cross was then placed on the casket by Mrs. Alexander’s son, David Alexander. The Old Testament reading was offered by MaryAnn Ames. The New Testament reading was offered by her daughter-in-law, Donna Alexander. The offertory gifts were presented to the altar by two daughters, MaryAnn Ames, Pattie Alexander and Mrs. Alexander’s daughter-in-law Donna Alexander. Words of remembrance were then offered by Mrs. Alexander’s daughter. Joan Shaplin. Mr. Robert Tunnicliffe played the bagpipes as the family processed into the church and as the family recessed from the church following the mass.

Serving as pall bearers were three sons-in-law, Garry Ames, Steve Lepore and Doug Hammond and two grandsons- in-law, Bernardo Salazar and John Connell. Honorary bearers from Saint Anne’s Society included Theresa Aglieri, Doris Boutin, Noella Boisvert and Jeannette Pierce.

The burial took place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery with Father Preskenis offering the committal prayers.

A luncheon and a time of sharing followed the service at Tally’s Restaurant in Bennington.

Mrs. Maria A. Alexander, 92, a longtime resident of Bennington, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, in Bennington. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
