Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- A prayer service for Marian Elizabeth Murphy was held on Tuesday morning at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian death and burial at St. John The Baptist Church in North Bennington. The Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Edward Howard, pastor, and the Rev. Michael DeMasi, assisting at the Mass was Mr. Ivon Matte.

The hymns selected for the Mass included “Amazing Grace,” “Ave Maria,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” Soloist for the Mass was Ms. Mildred Pierce, who was accompanied by Mrs. Louise Gauthier on the organ. The Old and New Testament scriptures were read by Mrs. Dawn Ludwig and Mrs. Kathy Weaver. The eucharistic gifts were presented at the altar by Mrs. Carol Clark, Mrs. Barbara Constantino, and Mrs. Nancy Jennings. Words of remembrance, written by the family, were read by Father DeMasi.

Following the Mass, interment took place in St. Johns Cemetery in North Bennington, with Father Howard and Father DeMasi offering the prayers of committal. Pallbearers for the services included Mrs. Murphy’s three sons, John F. Murphy, Joseph L. Murphy Jr. and Thomas J. Murphy, also acting as pallbearers were Craig Newton, Michael Madden and Paul Murphy. An honor guard representing the St. John the Baptist Sodality included, Elizabeth Becker, May Fox, Jill Levin, Lorna Cole, Margaret Crossman, Theresa DeMasi, Theresa Densmoreand Joyce Scarey.

The vigil service took place on Monday evening at the funeral home with Father Howard and Father DeMasi both officiating.

Mrs. Marian Elizabeth Murphy, 71, a resident of Schenectady, N.Y., died on Friday evening, July 30, 2004, at St. Peters Hospital in Albany, N.Y. Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
