Marie Elizabeth Costello

Obituary Condolences

OLD BENNINGTON -- Marie Elizabeth Costello, 74, a resident of Monument Avenue, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

She was born in Washington, D.C. on May 9, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Rae Daniel Conklin and Marie Louise (Gallenne) Conklin. She received her education in Washington, D.C.

Marie married her childhood sweetheart, Thomas Noonan Costello, on April 18, 1953. She devoted her life to creating a loving home for her husband, parents and daughter Janet. She possessed a deep child-like faith, which she instilled in her daughter, Janet, along with a reverence for all of God’s creations. Her hobbies included gardening, her collection of Teddy bears and, in her youth, ice skating.

Marie came to live in Bennington with her daughter and son-in-law, Howard Sinnott, following the death of her husband in April 1999.

She loved her time in Bennington and her family would like to thank those who helped make it possible for Marie to be cared for at home during her long debilitating illness; caregiver Rosalie Green, the kind and caring staff from the Bennington Area Home Health Agency, the Council on Aging, and the Bennington Area Meals Program. They also wish to thank Betty and Edie, from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Parish, who brought her weekly communion and also family friend, Thomas Daly, who provided support and emotional assistance.

Marie’s generosity of spirit and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter Janet and son-in-law Howard Sinnott of Bennington and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

Services will be private and be held at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery Chapel in Silver Spring, Md., at the convenience of the family.

The burial will take place in the family lot at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

If friends desire, contributions in memory of Marie may be made to the Bennington Area Home Health Agency through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
