Marie E. Janelle 1918 - 2010 BENNINGTON, VT Marie Elizabeth Janelle, 91, died peacefully Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at the Vermont Veterans Home where she had lived for several years. She was lovingly known as Mi Mi. Born Thursday, Dec. 12, 1918, in Norwell, Mass., she was the daughter of Arthur Peter Dussault and Marie Agnes Gaillardet Janelle. She married Louis Bertrand Janelle, and they had a daughter, Lucille. Sadly, he was killed in action during World War II and she was left a young widow. She worked for many years as a quality control inspector for the electronics manufacturing firm, Foxboro Company, in Whitman, Mass. In 1990, Marie moved to the area to be near family. When the family discovered their Native American lineage, Marie embraced and was embraced by the Native American community. She was given the name Smiling Fox. Smiling Fox camped for the first time when she was 76 years old and loved it. She enjoyed going to Pow Wows where she would fall asleep listening to the drums. Marie loved nature, especially flowers and birds and she loved her furry friends, her dogs and cats. She was predeceased by two grandchildren, Leonard P. Tirrell and Lisa Helen Tirrell. She is survived by her daughter, Lucille M. White and husband, Donovan, of White Creek; two siblings, Estelle Marie Dussault of White Creek and Joseph Arthur Dessault of Old Orchard, Maine; two grandchildren, Linda Thorne of Tampa, Fla., and Lawrence A. Tirrell of White Creek; four great-grandchildren, Melissa Terrell, and companion John Williamson of Shaftsbury and Troy, Alyssa and Brandon Thorne of Tampa; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. MEMORIAL NOTICE: On Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at 12 noon, there will be a Native American Ceremony at ACKLEY & ROSS FUNERAL HOME, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge, NY.
