She was 95 years old, born on May 4, 1915. Marie was the eldest child of Malinda Valentine Bogardus and Daniel Bogardus, Sr.; widow of Anthony Joseph Szetela; devoted mother of Linda Marie Collett of Ghent; and proud grandmother of John Michael Albright of East Greenbush.

She is survived by her sisters, Anna Peabody of Hoosick Falls and Julia Rychcik of Mechanicville; her brother, William Bogardus, of Bennington, Vt.; several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Fairbanks, and brother Daniel Bogardus Jr.

Marie completed her schooling at the Hoosick Falls High School where she was a four year member of the Girls Varsity Basketball Team. She loved athletics and was a fearless competitor in spite of her petite stature and gentle demeanor.

After a career as an estate housekeeper, Marie's life was marked by dedication to her home and family, which included many much loved pets. A superb cook and crochet artist, she also was an expert gardener and a voracious reader. She was known for her quick wit which remained with her even in her final months and admired for her courage and staunch determination in the face of insurmountable odds. Marie was not a person easily forgotten, and her memory will be cherished.

The family would like to express profound gratitude to the staffs of Community Hospice and Barnwell Nursing Home. Marie treasured the kindnesses shown to her.

FUNERAL NOTICE: In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. A committal service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hoosick Falls at a later date.

For those who wish, remembrances to the Community Hospice of Columbia and Greene Counties or the Columbia-Greene Humane Society would be appreciated.
