CLARKSBURG, Mass. -- Marilyn Shirley (Willette) Alderman, 78, of North Eagle Street, and formerly of Meadow Street, North Adams, died Monday morning, Sept. 5, 2005, at the Hillcrest Cornmons in Pittsfield of arteriosclerosis and kidney failure.

She was born in North Pownal, Vt., on Dec. 12, 1926, a daughter of the late Victor Willette and Eva Ruth (Brothers) Willette. She moved to North Adams with her family at the age of 8. She attended the former St. Joseph Parochial School and graduated from St. Joseph High School with the class of 1945.

She was employed for 26 years at the Cornish Wire, General Cable and Carol Cable Companies in Williamstown.

She was a longtime communicant of Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church in North Adams. She was an active member of the Clarksburg Council on Aging and was a volunteer driver for seniors who were housebound. She was a member of the Northern Berkshire YMCA, a past member of the Bennington (Vt.) Club and a member of the Clarksburg Senior Center, where she was a member of the ladies singing group the “Golden Tones.”

Her first husband, James M. Gorman, whom she married April 24, 1946, died Aug. 16, 1972. Her second husband, Frances Russell Alderman, whom she married March 17, 1978, died Dec. 16, 2003.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen Gillis of Framingham, Mass.; two sons, Michael J. Gorman and James M. Gorman of Pownal, Vt.; five grandchildren, Kimberly Gavagan, Chelsey Gorman, Drew Gillis, Troy Gillis and Amy Gillis; two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Sophia Gavagan; one stepdaughter and dear friend, Dorothy DiLorenzo of North Adams; two stepgrandchildren, Mary Patricia LeClair and Michael DiLorenzo; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Christina and Michael DiLorenzo.

She was predeceased by a stepgreat-grandchild, Jocelyn E. LeClair, who died Aug. 18, 2001; and two brothers, Gerald L. “Larky” Willette who died Aug. 28, 1997, and Leland Paul “Lee” Willette who died Jan. 17, 1974; and Rita Jarie Doherty, who died Jan. 13, 2004.

Funeral services for Marilyn Shirley (Willette) Alderman will take place Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at 11 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Clarksburg Senior Center through the funeral home.
