Marion A. Tiernan 1917 - 2009 BENNINGTON Marion A. Tiernan, 91, widow of Lawrence E. Tiernan, a resident of Grove Street, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, following a long illness. Born in Arlington on Oct. 9, 1917, daughter of Frederick and Sarah Fox Young, she received her education in Arlington and was a 1935 graduate of Arlington High School. In earlier years, Mrs. Tiernan was employed at Tansitor Electronics. She later worked at the former Jard Company for several years until the time of her retirement. Mrs. Tiernan enjoyed knitting and especially time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr and Mrs. Tiernan were married in Manchester on May 6, 1939. Mr. Tiernan died Aug. 23, 1997. She leaves three daughters and sons-in-law, Noreen and Chris Damon of North Bennington, Mary and Lynn Buak of Shaftsbury, and Cynthia and Jerome Brock of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nina Tiernan and Barbara Worroll, both of Milford, Conn.; two brothers, John Young of Milford and Richard Young of Arnold, Mich., and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband, Mrs. Tiernan was predeceased by a son, David Tiernan; by a great-granddaughter, Shelby Lynn Paligo, and by a sister and two brothers, Dorothy Baines, Frederick and Charles Young. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2998, at 12:30 p.m. from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME with a prayer from Four Chaplains All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home at 1 p.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered by the Rev. Michael A. Demasi, Chaplain. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Jerome's Cemetery in East Dorset. Should friends desire, contributions in Marion A. Tiernan's memory may be made to either the Palliative Care Program at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation or to the Bennington Rescue Squad through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
