Marion Carlson Obituary
Marion Carlson

1918 - 2015 BENNINGTON Marion L. Carlson, 96, of Bennington, passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on February 12, 2015 at Fillmore Pond. Born in Brockton, Mass. in 1918, she was the daughter of Howard and Kathryn Lenehan. She graduated from Avon High School as salutatorian of her class and then continued her education at Burdett College in Boston, graduating in 1938. Marion was employed as a secretary for several years in businesses located in Brockton. In April, 1941, she married John R. Carlson at Olivet Memorial Church in Brockton, where she had served as organist and pianist for many years. In 1946, she and her husband entered Nyack College in Nyack, NY, graduating in 1951. Following college, she faithfully assisted her husband as he pastored churches of the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination in Burlington, VT, West Hartford and Stratford, CT, and Bennington, VT. Marion was a gifted and exciting musician and she used her musical talents during church services, family gatherings, and her personal favorite: weddings. She assisted her husband in church ministries and was always a supportive and caring person who loved the Lord and faithfully served Him. Upon retiring in 1981, the Carlsons moved to Cambridge, NY where they resided for many years before moving back to Bennington. Marion was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. John R. Carlson, and brothers; Howard, Richard, and Roger Lenehan. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Marion's life was spent serving the Lord and people in need - her faith and service to others were deeply appreciated and will often be remembered. We as a family want to thank the many people who so graciously and kindly enriched Marion's life. Your devotion and thoughtfulness was a great gift to her and to her family. We also want to recognize and thank the many people at Fillmore Pond who so wonderfully and lovingly cared for Marion.
