NEWPORT -- Marion E.F. Nelson, 90, a resident of the Belaire Convalescent Center in Newport, and former resident of Shaftsbury, died on Monday afternoon, June 10, 2003 in Newport.

She was born in Berkeley, Calif. on June 22, 1912, and was the daughter of John H. and Mary E. (Jewett) Brooks Jr. She received her education in California. She moved to Vermont in 1967 and had previously resided in North Tonowanda, N.Y. and Worcester, Mass. Mrs. Nelson enjoyed gardening and working with flowers.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Nelson of Newport, her sons; Douglas Francis of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Donald Francis of Barnett, Raymond Francis of Universal City, Texas, seven grandchildren; Steven, Vronda, Raymond Jr., Richard, Barbara, Brian, and Donald-John.

She is predeceased by her first husband, Alden L. Francis and one brother, J. Hapgood Brooks.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday afternoon, June 14, at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 W. Main St. in Bennington at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Penny Rich-Smith, pastor of the North Bennington Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will take place in the family lot in Hope Cemetery in Worcester, Mass. privately. There are no calling hours scheduled.
