Marion E. Gavin 1916-2010 BENNINGTON Mrs. Marion E. Gavin, 94, widow of I. Edson Gavin a former resident of Division Street in Bennington, died Saturday July 31, 2010 at the Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson, N.H. She was born in New Market, New Jersey June 13, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Belle (Leggin) Hemmer. Marion received her education in New Jersey and was a graduate of Metuchen High School. She later graduated from Drakes Business College in Plainfield, New Jersey. Marion married Michael J. Kloosterman in Dunellen, NJ in 1939. Mr. Kloosterman died in 1942. She later married I. Edson Gavin in Canaan, Conn. in 1948. Mr. Gavin died in April of 1987. In earlier years Mrs. Gavin was employed as a customer service representative at Cushman Manufacturing. She later was employed in administration at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. Mrs. Gavin was a member of Saint Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington. Her hobbies and interests included collecting antique furniture and glassware and she enjoyed antique automobiles. Survivors include a son, and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Susan Gavin of Houston, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law Ruth & Norman Miller of Nashua, N.H.; seven grandsons of New England, Seattle, Washington and Houston, Texas; seven great grandchildren; a brother William Francis Hemmer of Bushnell, Fla.; nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Gavin was pre-deceased by a daughter Michelene E. Kloosterman who died November 18, 1999. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Gavin will be held from St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington on August 21, 2010 at 11 a.m. At the request of Mrs. Gavin there will be no calling hours. The burial will take place in the family lot in the Village Cemetery in Bennington. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Mrs. Gavin may be made to the Bennington Lions Sight Fund through the office of THE MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
