Marion W. Heekin 1911 - 2011 BENNINGTON, VT Marion Warner Heekin, 99, a resident of Gore Road, Bennington, died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at her residence following a brief illness. Born in East Dorset on Sept. 24, 1911, she was the daughter of Elmer A. and Katherine Hughes Warner. She received her early education in the East Dorset and Bennington schools. Marion later graduated from the Fanny Allen School of Nursing in Winooski as a registered nurse. For many years she owned the Warner Nursing Home on South Street in Bennington. Marion was first married to William B. Powers who died in 1968. She later married Alfred Heekin who died in 2001. Marion was a member of Fanny Allen Alumni and was an avid collector of antiques, especially antique clocks. She will be remembered by many as being a truly caring, giving and kind person. Survivors include a son, Michael E. Powers of Bennington; four grandchildren, Stephanie Mavigalino of Jupiter, Fla., Ron Powers of New York City, Jason and Jessica Powers, both of Cambridge, Mass.; three great-grandchildren, Mia and Michael Mavigalino and Ava Margaret Powers; a sister, Jacqueline Warner Cartmell of Vero Beach, Fla.; a very special niece, Frances Bishop Hicks and her husband Donald of Bennington; a grand-niece and a grand-nephew, Martha Hicks Robinson of Montpelier and Charles R. Hicks of Dorset; five Heekin step-children, James, Richard, John, Christine and Elaine, and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. Marion was predeceased by a sister and three brothers, Catherine Bishop, Edward, Eugene and William Warner; a grand-nephew, John Hicks, and a great-niece, Ellen Bindman Hicks. MEMORIAL NOTICE: At Marion's request, private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
