BENNINGTON -- Marion Ruth Shapiro, 92, a recent resident of the Village at Fillmore Pond in Bennington and formerly of Newtown, Conn., died at her residence on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005. She was born in Philadelphia, Pa. July 4, 1912, a daughter of Emil and Jenny (Davis) Thim.

She grew up in Queens, N.Y. and graduated from Woodhaven High School. She married Morris Shapiro in Newburgh, N.Y. and spent much of her life in Newtown, Conn. Marion worked for many years as a librarian in the Whiteplains, N.Y. public library. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, her dogs and trips to the ocean.

Mrs. Shapiro is survived by her husband Morris of the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, her son Joel Shapiro of Bondville, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held today, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m. at the Vermont Veterans Home Chapel in Bennington. A graveside service of committal will follow in the Israel Congregation section of the Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Rabbi Bob Freedman of the Manchester Israel Congregation will officiate.
