Marjorie "Tish" Barnes

1943 - 2014 BENNINGTON Marjorie "Tish" Barnes, a longtime resident of Grandview Street, passed away unexpectedly at Albany Medical Center with her longtime companion, Dick Cook by her side on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014. Tish was born in Foulsham, Norfolk, England on Oct. 23, 1943, daughter of the late Anthony Nobbs and Florence Beamish Nobbs. She received her undergraduate education in England. Tish was a loyal and devoted friend to many. She found endless joy in her extraordinarily elaborate flower and fairy gardens. She was a lover and advocate of all animals. She truly was an "animal whisperer". She volunteered countless hours walking dogs that would otherwise be confined to a shelter. Tish was an avid reader and found great pleasure in her books. She was a world traveler, living in England and South Africa until settling in the United States. She took immense joy in travelling numerous times to England as well as France. Survivors include her longtime partner and companion, Richard "Dick" Cook of Bennington, several sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews of England and an extensive extended family of friends. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service and celebration of Tish's life will be held in the Spring. Memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of the United States through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, V T 05201.
