SHAFTSBURY -- Marjorie Randall Galusha (nee Hewitt), 96, died peacefully in Bennington on March 29, 2007. Born in Rockville, Conn., to Edward Hewitt and Cora Nichols Hewitt. She grew up in Arlington, New Jersey and resided in the Caldwell area for many years before moving to Vermont. A devoted wife and mother, she was married to the late Albert Ranney Galusha for nearly 50 years. Marjorie is survived by her seven children, Richard (Janet) of Fairfield, N.J.; Gwendolyn Rizzo (Paul) of Hampton, Va.; Louise Welsch (George) of Shaftsbury; Auberta of Bennington; Paul (Pamela) of Boonton, N.J.; Manetta Maniaci (Charles) of Mohnton, Pa. and Muriel Rice (Edward) of Bennington, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

An active leader in the Girl Scouts, PTA, Wesleyan Service Guild, United Methodist Women, she sang in the Methodist Church choirs in Caldwell and Shaftsbury. In 1960 she and her husband Ranney purchased the Governor Galusha Homestead in Shaftsbury and lived there upon retirement. She was a co-founder of the Shaftsbury Historical Society.

A service in celebration of her life will be held at the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church Saturday, March 31, 2007, at 11 a.m. Family members will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church. A reception immediately following the service will be hosted by the United Methodist Women.
