Marjorie M. George 1928 - 2011 WHITE CREEK, NY Marjorie May George, 83, died peacefully Sunday, May 1, 2011, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Donald W. George, who died in 1993. Born Wednesday, Jan. 11, 1928, in North Hoosick, she was the daughter of William Telford, Sr., and Amy Cloke Telford. After graduating from Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls, class of 1945, Marge attended Troy Business College. She and Don were married Aug. 20, 1949. Marge worked at J.M. Warren Hardware Store in Troy until she and Don bought their own dairy farm in White Creek. She stayed very busy raising their family and working on the farm. The farm was sold in 1969, and Marge returned to work as a secretary. She worked at L & S Lumber, Specialty Insulation and LoveJoy Chaplet, from which she retired in 1993. In her retirement years, she traveled widely to visit her family and friends. Marge was always very active in the White Creek community. She was a longtime member and treasurer of the Jermain United Methodist Church. She was also active in the Jermain Community Hall, the Farm Bureau and as a 4-H Leader. She was a volunteer at the Bennington Museum and a member of the Walter A. Wood Alumni Association. She enjoyed knitting, doing crossword puzzles, taking care of her lawn and flowers and gardening. Primarily she loved her family, friends and church. She was truly the core of her family. Survivors include three daughters, Carol Leith and husband Douglas of Wynantskill; Donna Baumann and husband Charles of Schertz, TX and Laurie George Hopper of Cambridge; a brother, William Telford, Jr. of North Hoosick; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, soon to be five. Her son-in-law, Malcolm M. Hopper died this past October. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends and relatives are invited to call on Thursday, May 5, 2011, from 12 noon to 2 PM at ACKLEY & ROSS FUNERAL HOME, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge, NY. A funeral service conducted by the Rev. Susan Bowman and Pastor Dale Hall will follow at the funeral home beginning at 2 PM. Burial will follow at Woodlands Cemetery, Cambridge. All are invited to a reception at the Coila Church, State Route 372, Cambridge. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Jermain United Methodist Church or the Jermain Community Hall at 33 Quaker Hill Road, Eagle Bridge, NY 12057.
