POWNAL -- Marjorie Mary (Morrisse) Johnson, 72, of Center Street, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, where she was admitted one week ago.

She was born Oct. 23, 1931 in Whitingham, daughter of the late Andrew L. and Minnie M. (Darymple) Morrisse. She attended Whitingham and Readsboro Elementary schools and Jacksonville High School. She was employed for 10 years at Neville’s Donut Shop in North Adams, Mass. and later was employed for 10 years at the former Green Mountain Race Track in Pownal. She retired when the track ceased operations. She had been a longtime resident of Pownal.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 90, Pownal.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Chester A. Johnson, whom she married Nov. 20, 1948; a daughter, Sue E. Davignon of North Adams; a granddaughter, Bobbi Jo Platt and her companion Rob Olver of South Carolina; a grandson, Frank M. Davignon Jr. and his wife Ann of North Adams; four great-grandchildren, Samantha Davignon and Michael Davignon, both of North Adams, and Travis Lehman, also of North Adams, and Leona Olver of South Carolina; a sister-in-law, Frances D. Morrisse of Baton Rouge, La.; an aunt, Cora Allen of Marlborough, N.H.; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and nephews, great-grand-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Carl A. Johnson, Aug. 30, 1994, Bruce M. Johnson March 6, 1990, a daughter, Flora L. Laliberte, Jan. 28, 2002 and a brother, Andrew T. Morrisse Jr.

She was a talented seamstress and craft person, and while in good health, enjoyed craft fairs and the company of her many family pets.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2004, in the Auge San Soucie-Simmons Funeral Home, North Adams. The Rev. John Foste, chaplain of the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in her memory be made to the animal shelter of the donor’s choice, through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247.
