Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Marjorie P. Nightingale, a resident of Fillmore Pond, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness. She was 91 years old.

Born in Waterbury, Conn., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Martha (Hausdorf) Perkins. Mrs. Nightingale attended the Bunker Hill School and was valedictorian of her graduating class. Following her graduation from Crosby High School, she attended Bryant Business College in Providence, R.I., where she earned a degree in accounting. After graduation, she worked in the office at Patton Button in Waterbury.

On July 13, 1940, she married Clarence J. Nightingale. After her marriage, she lived in Newington, Conn. In 1949, she and her husband moved to Old Wethersfield, where they resided on the Wethersfield Cove. Mr. Nightingale died Dec. 28, 1987. In 1994, Mrs. Nightingale moved to Vermont to be closer to her daughter.

Mrs. Nightingale enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include two children, Paul Nightingale and his wife Sandra of Higganum, Conn. and Judith Haight and her husband Richard of Bennington; two grandchildren, Erik Haight of Kansas City, Mo. and Krista Haight of Burlington; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the James T. Pratt Funeral Home in Wethersfield on Feb. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m., when the family will be in attendance. Services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Nightingale’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association of Wallingford, Conn. or the American Cancer Society - Greater Hartford Area of Hartford, Conn. through the office of James T.
