BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Marjorie Ruth Ruhl, 79, a former resident of Dewey Street, died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 23, 2004, at the Centers For Living and Rehabilitation following a long illness.

Mrs. Ruhl was born in Duquesne, Pa. on Jan. 5, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Oscar T. and Mabel Elizabeth (Peterson) Peterson. She grew up in Duquesne, where she graduated from Duquesne High School, Class of 1943. She went on to attend Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh. She had lived in the Pittsburgh area throughout her life with her husband, Earl W. Ruhl. They relocated to Bennington in 1987 to be nearer their son, Dr. Robert Ruhl. Mr. Ruhl predeceased her on Oct. 4, 1990.

Mrs. Ruhl had worked as a secretary in the Boyce Middle School and at other businesses as a secretary in the Pittsburgh area. An avid sewer, she was proud of being able to design, pattern and make her own clothing with professional results; she was a volunteer at the Bennington Museum and volunteered as a Gray Lady in the gift shop at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. She enjoyed the company of family and friends.

She leaves her son Dr. Robert S. Ruhl of Wilmington; a brother, Charles Peterson, and his wife Betty of Grand Rapids, Mich; her grandchildren, Nathan Ruhl of Philadelphia, Lauren Ruhl of West Dover, Brian Ruhl of Hendersonville, N.C. and Hannah Ruhl of Wilmington; her dear friends Louella and Deane Schlosser of Waterford, Pa.; several brothers- and sisters-in-law in the Pittsburgh area; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, William and Margaret Peterson.

A celebration of her life and time of remembrance will be held at the Covey & Allen Funeral Home on Saturday morning, Nov. 27, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Ruhl family lot in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., when the family will be present.
