Marjorie T. Roberts

1936 - 2009 BENNINGTON, VT Marjorie Towslee Roberts, 73, a resident of Elm Street and formerly of Jefferson Heights, died on Friday evening, Dec. 18, 2009, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a brief illness.

Marjorie was born in Bennington on Oct. 21, 1936, daughter of the late Ned and Dorothy Estes Towslee. She received her education in local schools and was a graduate of Bennington High School in the class of 1953. She also graduated from St. Joseph 's College in Bennington. Following her graduation, she moved to Burlington and then to Washington, D.C. She returned to Vermont and married Ernest Roberts on Aug. 23, 1958, in Pownal. Mr. Roberts predeceased her in 2006.

Over the years, Marjorie has been employed at the A&P Food Store in Bennington, the Bennington Brush Co., and at Triangle Manufacturing. She also had been the secretary at the First United Methodist Church in Bennington for many years. A woman of strong faith, she has belonged to the Pownal Methodist Church, the First United Methodist Church in Bennington, and most recently the Shaftsbury Methodist Church .

Marjorie enjoyed baking and the New York Yankees, but most of all, spending time with family, especially her granddaughters.

She leaves her daughter, Kimberly Jean Roberts of Bennington, her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Krista Roberts, and two granddaughters; Lindsey Roberts and Jenna Roberts, all of New Milford, Conn.; two sisters and two brothers, Carolyn Graham of Bennington, Kathryn Hall of Bennington, James "Joe" Towslee of Pownal and Walter Towslee of Woodstock and Florida; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and Harold Weyers of Williamstown, Mass., as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her brother, Francis "Frank" Towslee.

MEMORIAL NOTICE; A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Shaftsbury Methodist Church with the Rev. Matthew Bowles, pastor, officiating. Interment will take place in the family lot in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown, MA. At Mrs. Robert's request, there are no calling hours scheduled.
