Marjorie W. Stephenson

1928-2016 BENNINGTON Marjorie W. Stephenson, 88, of Middlebury passed away at her home on September 18. She was born in January 1928 in Bennington, VT, the daughter of Walter and May (Gaudette) Wright. Marjorie grew up in Bennington and Cold Spring, NY, with her stepfather, Edwin Coffin, her mother and three siblings. She graduated from Bennington High School in 1945 and then in 1949 from the University of Vermont where she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Marjorie began her teaching career in Hinesburg. After her children were grown, she was a regular substitute teacher in the elementary schools in Middlebury and several nearby towns. She was predeceased by John (Lowell, VT), her husband of 54 years, and her sister Priscilla. She is survived by her brother, Robert Wright (Frieda), of Brattleboro and her sister, Joanne Green (Dana), of Bennington. She is also survived by her children Helen Stephenson Levitz (Larry) of Bronxville, NY, Carol Stephenson Leckert (Norman) of Bethel, John Stephenson (Susan Kemp) of Bristol, and Janet Stephenson Zampini (Alan) of Albuquerque, NM., as well as five grandchildren, Kristen and Karen Stephenson, Benjamin and Daniel Levitz, and Andrew Zampini. A memorial service for family and close friends will be held at a future date (to be announced). Memorial contributions may be made to Project Homeward Bound/Addison County Humane Society at 236 Boardman St., Middlebury, VT 05753.
