1955 - 2014 SHAFTSBURY Mark Barden, 59, aka, Honda Mark, Bearded Mark, Grandpa Red Beard and Rocky, a resident of Stateline Road in Shaftsbury died Monday Dec. 22, 2014 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. He was born in Granville, N.Y. on Mar. 29, 1955. He was the son of the late Ray Theodore Barden and Pauline (Wilson) Barden. Mark received his early education in the Rupert schools and was a 1973 graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School. Following high school Mark's family moved to Arizona where he was employed as a landscaper and he also worked for a moving company. He later moved to New Jersey and began working at Durand Glass where he was employed for 24 years as a fork lift operator. On September 15, 2003 he married the former Linda Williamson at the family farm in Shaftsbury. An avid motorcyclist, Mark was a Honda guy. He loved his Gold Wing and his Volvo cars. He enjoyed four wheeling, hunting , playing his guitar, and Bass fishing on Delaware Bay. He also enjoyed listening to Country and Blue Grass Music and a little Rock n Roll. Mark was a friend to anyone who needed help. He enjoyed sharing his thoughts on facebook and keeping a close bond with friends and family. Survivors include his wife, Linda Barden of Shaftsbury; two daughters, Alisha Lorraine Gates and her husband, Nate of Aurora, Colo. and Tara Ashley Barden of Vineland, N.J. three grandchildren, Phoenix Talon Gates and Khya Storm Gates of Aurora, Colorado and Abel Paul Barden of Vineland, N.J., his step-mother, Jeanette Bourn of Berlin, N.Y., two sisters, Nancy Williams and her husband Ken of Granville, New York and Lisa Harrington of Adams, MA,; three brothers, Claude Barden and his companion, Nancy Seidman of Cambridge, MA, Donald "Tiger" Bourn of Cambridge, N.Y. and large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins along with many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Maurice Barden and Nicky Bourn and a sister, Kim Hale. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. If friends desire contributions in memory of Mark may be made to either the Wilson House in Dorset, VT, the Rupert Fire Department or a through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
