Obituary Condolences

KINGSTON, N.Y. -- Mark F. Sprague, 52, passed away after a long, courageous battle, on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at the Northeast Center for Special Care in Lake Katrine, N.Y. He was born in Bennington, Vt., on April 11, 1955, son of the late Douglas E. Sprague Sr. and Kathleen M. (Scott) Sprague.

Mark was a 1973 graduate of Hoosick Falls Central School. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the Army. After serving his Army term, Mark moved back to Hoosick Falls. While living in Hoosick Falls, he was employed by the Hoosick Falls DPW (working for his father, Superintendent Douglas Sprague). He also worked for the Town of Hoosick DPW and Oak Material Group.

Mark moved to Herkimer. While living in Herkimer, Mark was employed for awhile by a local supermarket. Mark’s greatest passion living in Herkimer was being close to his mother and also in helping others in need. Mark volunteered his time and energy in helping the Table food pantry, volunteering at the Salvation Army and volunteering at the local churches. In the past several years, Mark’s greatest love along with being close to his mother was his love and devotion to the Lord.

Mark is survived by his loving and devoted mother, Kathleen M. Sprague of Herkimer; his loving and devoted sister and brother-in-law, Elaine (Sprague) and Vern Weeden of Pittstown, N.Y.; his loving sister and brother-in-law Christine (Sprague) and Tom Carrow of Virginia; his two sons Nick and Doug; his aunts Sara Kenyon, Barb and Jean Sprague; his uncle Carl Sprague, one nephew, several nieces and cousins. Mark was predeceased by his father, Douglas E. Sprague Sr., in June 1973; his brother, Walter F. Sprague in March 1970; and his brother Douglas E. Sprague Jr. in December 1998. Before Douglas Jr. passed, he was not only a brother to Mark but became a father figure to him when their father passed away in 1973.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls, where Mark will be laid to rest next to his brother, Douglas Jr. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service.
