Obituary Condolences

Mark Stevenson 1953 - 2008 BENNINGTON Mark D. Stevenson, 55, died Wednesday, Sept. 24. Born in Chicago, Ill., on March 28, 1953, son of George and Fern Stevenson, he was raised in Chicago and Maryland. Mark graduated from The College of William and Mary, in Virginia, where he met his wife, Liz. Mark and Liz moved to Bennington in 1979. He was an all around sportsman and sports fan, and a long-suffering fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He was a renowned storyteller, able to recount and weave tales that would leave his listeners laughing for days, and looking forward to hearing his next ones. He was particularly dedicated to his love of coaching young men and women in Bennington, where he volunteered his time to coach soccer, basketball, field hockey, and lacrosse for more than 20 years. Mark was known for his boundless enthusiasm, devoted service, and endless encouragement of these teams and players, whether they were winless in a season or winning a championship. Mark was above all things a devoted father and husband, and a great friend and neighbor. He leaves his wife, Liz, of Bennington; his son Matt, of Tempe, Ariz.; his daughter, Kasha, and son, Chris, of Bennington; and his mother, Fern, of Virginia. FUNERAL NOTICE: Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family. Matt, Kasha, and Chris would especially appreciate receiving notes with any anecdotes or memories that Mark's many friends and team members would like to share with them. Please mail them to the E.P. MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201. Memorial contributions should be made to The Stevenson's Children's Education Fund or to the Make a Wish Foundation, also in care of the funeral home.
