Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Marshal Serrano Jr., 82, a former resident of Poultney and St. Augustine, Fla., died Monday, May 31, 2004 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington following a brief illness.

Born in Roseburg, Ore. on Nov. 17, 1921, he was the son of the late Marshal Serrano Sr. and Lily (Peterson) Serrano. He received his education in the Englewood, N.J. schools.

Mr. Serrano was a World War II Navy veteran.

He married the former Dorothy Martini in Englewood on Nov. 19, 1942.

Mr. Serrano was a U.S. government civil service employee. He first was stationed at Watson Labs in New Jersey, and from 1952 until his retirement in 1973 at Camp Evans in Bellmare, N.J.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Serrano of Bennington; a daughter, Marie L. Serrano of East Dorset; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Botta of Venice, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Marshal Serrano will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Wednesday, June 2, at 6 p.m.

There will be no calling hours.

Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. at the convenience of the family.
