BENNINGTON -- Martha Ann Morse, 91, a resident of The Walloomsac Apartments died on Monday afternoon at the Vermont Veterans Home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Morse was born in Shaftsbury on March 20, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Olin and Mary Agnes (Welch) Cross. Mrs. Morse grew up in Shaftsbury where she attended local schools. She was married to Theodore Wayne Morse on July 29,1933. Mr. Morse passed away on March 9,1967.

She had worked in the laundry department at the former Putnam memorial Hospital, now Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Mrs. Morse was a longtime communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, a member of the Grange and a former member of the Eagles and V.F.W. Auxiliary. Her large family was the most important aspect of her life, she enjoyed caring for her family, especially her grandchildren, she also liked to cook, and play bingo. She will be remembered for her musical talents, often playing the piano and harmonica.

Mrs. Morse leaves her children, Millie and husband, Larry Harrington, of Bennington, Lucille and husband, Lowell Greene, of North Bennington, Theodore and wife, Shirley Morse, of North Bennington, Rose Mary Greene of Bennington, Mary and husband, Ernest Murray of North Bennington, Gerald Morse of Bennington and Martha Ann Morse and fiancé, Doug Lepoidevin, of Bennington; a sister, Mary Pratt, of Bennington; 28 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Jo-Ann Hulett, who died Dec. 4, 1985; two brothers, Olin Cross Jr. and Pearle Cross; and two sisters Millie Sourdiffe, and Dorothy Cross.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 10 a.m. with former pastor, the Rev. Michael A. DeMasi officiating, a prayer service will precede the funeral mass at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. Burial with committal prayers will follow next to her husband in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery . A memorial reception will conclude the services in the social hall of the church, all are invited to attend. Friends may call at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be present. The vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.
