Martha Alice Driscoll 1925-2011 NORTH BENNINGTON Martha Alice Driscoll, 86, a longtime resident of Hawks Ave. in North Bennington died very peacefully with family and the dedicated staff of Prospect Nursing Home at her bedside on Monday May 23, 2011 at the Prospect Nursing Home in North Bennington following a long illness. She was born in Wadesboro, N.C., February 4, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Irvin D. and Mary E. Hanna Fine. Martha received her education in North Carolina and was a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston Salem, N.C. She married Frederic J. Driscoll Jr. on July 1, 1950 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington. They were married by Rev. William Dignon. During World War II Martha was employed as a welder at the Brunswick Shipyard in Georgia. She later worked at the Charlotte News in Charlotte, North Carolina and the Bijur Lubricating Corp. in Bennington. Martha enjoyed poetry and nature. She loved working with the soil and spent many hours nurturing her plants and flowers. Her home and family was her main interest. Survivors include her husband Frederic J. Driscoll Jr. of North Bennington. Her children, Lynn Longhurst and her husband James of Albion, Michigan, Frederic J. Driscoll III of Bernard, Maine, Rita Blais and her husband John of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., William Driscoll and his wife Toni of Bennington, Vt., and John Driscoll and his wife Marlene of North Bennington; Her grandchildren, Jamie, Jordan and Abby Longhurst, Carly, Jillian, Devin, Dillon and Alexandra Driscoll, 2nd Lt. John U.S. Army(now serving in Iraq), Katrina and Lauren Driscoll and Nicholas Blais. and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a granddaughter Jessie Driscoll Longhurst, a sister Irene Miner and a brother Robert Fine. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church on Friday June 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. The burial will follow at the family lot in Saint John's Cemetery in North Bennington.
