NORTH BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Martha L. Hall, 79, widow of Gordon E. Hall, a longtime resident of Mechanic Street, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born in Bennington on May 11, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Henry F. and Helen L. (Clark) Cooper. She received her education in the Bennington and North Bennington schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Hall were married April 14, 1951 at their residence in North Bennington. Mr. Hall died March 8, 2001.

In earlier years, Mrs. Hall was employed at Thompson Manufacturing and Hoy Manufacturing. She then was employed by Shea Furniture and Cushman Manufacturing in North Bennington. She retired in 1987 from Union Carbide Corp.

Mrs. Hall was a member of the Young at Heart Group of the Second Congregational Church in North Bennington.

Survivors include a son, William E. Hall of North Bennington; a brother, Henry F. Cooper, Jr. of Hoosick, N.Y.; nieces, nephews, great-nephews. Mrs. Hall was predeceased by a brother, William T. Cooper, and a foster daughter, Anita “Nitz” Burrington.

A graveside service will take place in the family lot in Grandview Cemetery in North Bennington Tuesday Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Penny Rich Smith, pastor of the Second Congregational Church in North Bennington, officiating. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Mrs. Hall may be made to either the Bennington Rescue Squad or the Second Congregational Church in North Bennington through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
