Mrs. Martha M. Edgerton, 100, widow of Harry P. Edgerton a former resident of School St. in Bennington died Sunday October 30, 2016 at the Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington. She was born in Bennington, VT. May 11, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Jane (McDonald) Mackerney. She received her education in Bennington and was a graduate of Bennington High School. She married Kenneth V. Cone at Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Mr. Cone died in 1944. She later married Harry P. Edgerton at Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Manchester. Mr. Edgerton died in 1972. In earlier years Mrs. Edgerton was employed at the Union Carbide Corporation in Bennington. Survivors include two sons Kenneth G. Cone and his wife Carolyn of Bennington and Richard H. Cone and his wife Rosemary of Arlington; Seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Edgerton was pre-deceased by two sisters, Jane Hartnett and Aileen Pello. The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday November 4, at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. The burial will take place in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery. At the request of Mrs. Edgerton there will be no calling hours. If friends desire contributions in memory of Martha M. Edgerton may be made to either BAYADA Hospice of Bennington or the Second Chance Animal Shelter through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
