Obituary Condolences

Martha Rech 1919-2012 BENNINGTON Martha Rech, 93, a resident of The Village at Fillmore Pond in Bennington, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012. Martha was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on February 22, 1919, the daughter of William and Sadie (Whitten) Ludwig. Martha and her twin sister Edna were born on George Washington's birthday, hence her name, Martha Washington. She disliked her middle name, but liked that she shared a birthday with Washington and that her birthday was a holiday. She graduated from John Adams High School in Ozone Park, New York. In 1945, she married Chester Rech. They lived in Queens Village, New York until 1976, when they moved to Wilmington, Vermont. They were married 54 years at the time of his death in 1999. Martha enjoyed her home, and in later years, she enjoyed watching the Red Sox. Martha attended the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Bennington. She is survived by her daughter Joan Rech of Wilmington, Vermont, her twin sister Edna Richards of Woodhaven, N.Y., her nieces, Joyce Richards of Woodhaven, N.Y., and Ginny Dupree of Huntington Station, N.Y., and seven grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Viola Bouchard and her nephew Eugene Bouchard. A celebration of the life of Martha Rech will be announced at a later date. There are no visiting hours. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Martha's memory may be made to the Vermont Land Trust of Montpelier, Vermont, the Vermont Land Trust and Vermont Chapter of the Nature Conservancy or the Wilmington Historical Society, c/o Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O.
