Martin Joseph Daigneault 1921-2010 BENNINGTON Martin Joseph Daigneault, 89, died Monday, August 2, 2010 following an accident at his home in Las Cruces, N.M. He was born on May 18, 1921 in Bennington, the youngest of nine children of Francis and Rosaline (Desautel) Daigneault. He grew up in Bennington and graduated from Bennington High School, class of 1939. On November 28, 1942, he was married to Dorothy Lundergan. Together they raised nine children, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends in November 1992. Dorothy predeceased him in July 1993. In October 1996, he was married to Jayne (Dorian) Whitney with whom he spent his final years. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served with the Air Force as a bombardier during World War II, earning a purple heart after his plane was shot down over Italy. After his discharge from the service, he began a life-long career with Sprague Electric Company. His career took him and his family to many locations including California, New Hampshire, Maine and ultimately Florida. After his retirement, he and Dorothy returned to Bennington. He was a member of Rotary in each city he lived and served on the boards of various civic and charitable organizations. He loved his family and took great pleasure in supporting his children's athletic endeavors. He is survived by his wife, Jayne, of Las Cruces, N.M. and her family; a brother Lou Daigneault of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; six sons, Stephen Daigneault and wife, Pat of Rockland, Mass., Thomas Daigneault and wife, Sally of Holderness, N.H., Michael Daigneault and partner, Barbara of Palm City, Fla., Jeffrey Daigneault and wife, Michelle of Thornton, N.H., Peter Daigneault and wife, Shirley of Wentworth, N.H., and Timothy Daigneault and wife, Susan of Plymouth, N.H.; three daughters, Mary Rose "Sunny" Puckett of Sarasota, Fla., Anne MacEwan and husband, Grant of Lebanon, N.H., and Beth Daigneault of Cary, N.C.; their families including seventeen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and numerous step-grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as "Gumpy". FUNERAL NOTICE: Family and friends are invited to a service on Monday, August 9, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Burial will follow at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME of Bennington is in charge of the arrangements.
