Martin "Tubby" Joseph Keith, 73, passed away on January 20, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 9, 1944 in Rutland, Vt, the son of Yvonne (Martin) and Joseph J. Keith.

He grew up in Bennington and Pittsford, Vermont. He graduated from Bennington Catholic High School in 1962. During his school years, he played baseball, basketball and football, excelling in each. He was scouted by the Kansas City Royals as a catcher but a knee injury prevented him from being signed. On a scholarship he went on to play football at St. Mary's of the Plains in Kansas. Missing family and the Green Mountains, he returned to Bennington where he married Kathleen Hart on Sept.19,1964. They moved to Utica NY and then back to Pittsford, VT where he worked with his father at Keith's Trading Post. He left the store to become a self employed logger. When the opportunity arose, he purchased an Interstate Battery Distributorship. He ran the business until 1998 then selling it to his oldest son Martin "Babe" Keith. He also ran a racing collectable business. After caring for his aging parents, Tubby missed the day to day challenges of running a business, he helped his sons DJ and Ryan establish Winning Image Graphix in 1995 where he worked as their diligent bookkeeper and business advisor.

Tubby had many interests including all sports and gambling. He sponsored the #31 dirt modified race car of Gibby Fountain from West Kingston, Rhode Island. He enjoyed helping his son Babe with his Monte Carlo show car as well as his son Ryan with his dirt and asphalt race cars. He attended NASCAR races where he followed the #18 Interstate Battery Car. He enjoyed playing golf and visiting the casinos. You could often find him betting friends and family about everything he could think of. However, his true passion was basketball. He loved helping coach the Otter Valley Girls High School team as well as anyone else who wanted to listen and improve their game. His basketball legacy will continue to live on in all the players he coached. He especially enjoyed sharing his basketball knowledge with his grandchildren.
