1947 - 2013 WOODRUFF, SC Martin James Paustian, 65, of Woodruff and formerly of Arlington, VT, died after a brief illness on Jan. 12, 2013, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
Marty was born on April 21, 1947, in Yorktown Heights, NY to Violet (Crumm) and Charles E. Paustian and was raised on a beautiful farm in Granite Springs, NY. He graduated from Somers Central High School in 1965. After serving in the Air Force from 1966-1969, Marty moved to Arlington, VT where he worked at Mack Molding and played in local softball and bowling leagues. During this time, Marty began his service in the Vermont National Guard, from which he retired in 1999. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 69. Marty moved to South Carolina in 1995 where he became an avid NASCAR fan. He treasured his #24 Jeff Gordon Monte Carlo. He remained in South Carolina until shortly before his passing.
Marty is survived by his children, James Paustian and his wife, Susan, of Arlington, VT, Jill Lampron and her husband, Mike, of Essex, VT, Melissa Squires and her significant other Todd West of Manchester, VT, Chad Paustian of Woodruff, SC, Morgan Jane of Gaffney, SC, his sister, Violet Johnston of Woodruff, SC, and his brother, Chic Paustian of Manchester, VT. Marty will also be missed by a loving extended family.
In his final years, Marty's greatest enjoyment was the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandson. He nurtured a special relationship with each and will always be remembered by Taylor, Jake, Chrissy, Alexa, Noah, Alex, Caleb, Ben, Maddy, and Riley James.
Marty's family takes great comfort knowing he has joined in heaven his parents, whom he missed dearly, and his beloved cousin and childhood cohort, Donald.
The family would like to thank the staff of SVMC for the professional and sensitive care Marty received.
MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 19th at 1:00 at the West Arlington Church in Arlington, VT with a reception immediately following at the American Legion Post 69 in Arlington. Early arrivals will be greeted by the family starting at noon. A private interment will be held in the spring.
