Obituary Condolences

MANCHESTER -- Mary Ann (Francis) Brush, 78, a resident of Shepard’s Lane, died Saturday morning, Jan 1, 2005, at Porter Medical Center Middlebury. She was visting her daughter at the time in Shoreham.

The daughter of Charles Henry Francis and Mary Winifred Brosnan, she was born in New York City on June 13, 1926.

She received her education in New York, graduating William Cullen Bryant High School in 1944. On Sept. 26, 1946, she married M. Lloyd Brush, an 11th-generation member of the Brush family from Vermont.

Mary multi-tasked being the wife of a police officer, raising two children and a full time career in the financial industry in a big city environment. She met all three challenges with grace, calm and determination. Her solitude came from weekend and summer retreats to the family’s cottage in Pownal with the family. In July of 1972, she, Lloyd and daughter Cindy took up permanent residence on Corey Lane in Bennington. Continuing her career she worked and retired from Chittenden Bank in Bennington.

Mary was devoted to her husband Lloyd and his passing in 1997 left a major hole in her life and heart. To fill that up, she moved to Shepard’s Lane in Manchester Center to be near her daughter’s family and the herd of grandkids under construction. Multi-tasking once again became part of her life as she started volunteering at the Southern Vermont Art Center and ended up being a part-time administrative assistant.

Mary is survived by her son, Charles F. Brush of Largo Fla.; daughter, Cynthia Brush Arseneau of Shoreham; and grandchildren, Charles Robert Brush, Linda Kathleen Brush, Justin Arseneau, Marc Brush Arseneau, Luc Brush Arseneau and Lauren Marie Brush Arseneau.

The liturgy of Christian death and burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan 7, 2005, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church. Internment will take place at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made in the memory of Mrs. Brush to the Shoreham Rescue Squad, whose efforts, care and expertise were appreciated. Memorial gifts may be sent through the office of the Brewster Funeral Home, P.O. Box 885, Manchester Center, VT 05255.
