WEST RUPERT -- Mary A. Lourie, 100, of West Rupert, passed away Thursday evening, June 7, 2007, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.

She was born Nov. 12, 1906, in West Rupert, the daughter of the late Jay E. and Calista Morehouse Lourie. Mary was a lifelong resident of West Rupert. A homemaker, she was a volunteer 4H leader since 1936, past president of the Rupert Chapter of the Home Demonstration, where she was a member for 75 years, and a member of the Farm Bureau. She was past president of the Bennington County Chapter of the American Red Cross during World War II, trustee of Camp Ondawa and a longtime member of the Rupert Congregational Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, a trustee and treasurer. She was also the treasurer of the women’s fellowship.

She is survived by her children, Stanley Lourie and Thomas Lourie, both of West Rupert, and Marion Sheldon of Hoosick Falls, N.Y. She is also survived by two brothers, Clifford “Kip” Wilson of Orange City, Fla., and Jay Wilson Jr. of West Rupert; two sisters, Bertha Roberts and Lillian Carlton, both of Salem, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Willard Lourie, who passed away in 1965, two sons, Wilson Lourie and William Lourie, a brother, James Wilson, a sister, Clara Bentley, and a grandson, Jay Sheldon.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2007, at the Rupert Congregational Church with the Rev. Mary Beth Hutchinson officiating. Interment will take place in the Rupert Cemetery.
