Mary Boyer

1941 - 2014 CHESTERFIELD, MO. Mary "Muffy" Schroeder Boyer passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2014 in Chesterfield, Missouri after a brief illness. Mary was born to Paul J. Schroeder and Mary "Susan" (McMahon) Schroeder in St. Louis, Missouri on April 1, 1941. She graduated from Academy of the Sacred Heart - City House high school in 1959, and Maryville University in 1963 with degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics. Mary returned to St. Louis after raising her four sons in Arlington, Vt., and graduated from Webster University in 1990 with degrees in Accounting and Marketing. She then embarked on a fulfilling career working for non-profit organizations including Parents as Teachers, St. Louis, Mo.; the American Red Cross, St. Louis Area Chapter; and finally retiring from Boys Hope Girls Hope, Bridgeton, Mo., as Director of Finance in Oct. of 2011. During her time in Arlington, Vermont, Mary immersed herself in the local community. She taught elementary school in nearby Manchester and Sunderland, and served on the Arlington School Board. Mary owned and operated Battenkill Gallery Antiques in Arlington, served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, raised Suffolk sheep, cultivated lifelong friendships, and nurtured her sons into adulthood among her many other endeavors. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 15 years, John "Jack" E. Boyer of Chesterfield, Mo., and her devoted brother, Paul J. Schroeder, Jr. and sister-in-law, Corliss "Corky" M. Schroeder of Des Peres, Mo. She is also survived by her step-daughter, Carolyn U. Boyer of Chesterfield, Mo.; her son, John L. Whalen II and his wife, Nicol S. Whalen of Arlington Vt.; her son, T. Patrick Whalen, Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her son, Timothy Nash Whalen and his partner, Carrie Barclay of San Francisco, Calif.; her son, Christopher A.C. Whalen of San Francisco, Ca.; her nephew Paul "P.J." J. Schroeder III and his wife, Jessica Kruse of Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.; her nephew, Stephen Schroeder of Des Peres, Mo.; and her beloved grandchildren: J. Lewis Whalen III, T. Dominic Whalen II and Christopher Hitoshi Whalen all of Arlington. She was predeceased by Thomas P. Whalen, the father of her children. Mary is also survived by her three dogs: Gracie, Charlie, and Boomer.
