Mary E. Brownell Obituary
NORTH BENNINGTON - Mary E. Brownell, 74, a resident of White Creek Road, North Bennington, died Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.

Born in Portland, Maine on August 28, 1941 she was the daughter of the latE John W. and Elizabeth G. (Coffey) Chute. Mary attended Boston University on a writing scholarship.

She entered law enforcement and served with the County Sherrif's in Appleton Wisconsin. She was the first woman officer in the State of Wisconsin to be armed and drive a patrol car.

Upon moving to Shaftsbury she continued working in the legal field. She was passionate about animals, particularly the Kuvasz breed of dog, native of Hungary.

Mary is survived by her brothers, Jack Chute of Toronto, Canada and Kevin Chute of Freeport ME, her sister Patricia Chute of Savannah GA, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

SERVICES: Friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street in Bennington.
