Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mary E. Percey, 60, a resident of Weeks Street and a lifelong resident of Bennington, died Oct. 12, 2006, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

Mary was born in Bennington, on Nov. 29, 1945, the daughter of Ralph and Ruth (Potter) Mavilla, Sr. She received her education in Bennington schools, graduating from Bennington High School, class of 1963. Mary graduated from the Troy, N.Y., Beauty School in 1965 and took courses concentrating in early childhood education.

Mary ran her own day care, Play Care Nursery School, for over 10 years and also worked with her sister Christina at Spice ‘N Nice in Bennington. Mary had a passion for needlework and taught herself how to crochet and knit. She became accomplished at knitting and crocheting and won several awards, especially at the Hildene show. Mary was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and all types of crafts and loved collecting marbles. She was also a former instructor, with her son, Sean, at the Southern Vermont Karate Club.

Mary is survived by her husband, Robert Percey, of Bennington, whom she married in Bennington on Nov. 26, 1966; two sons, Scott Percey and his wife, Elizabeth, of Bennington, and Aron Percey also of Bennington; her brother, Ralph Mavilla Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Bennington; her sister, Christina Hernandez and her husband, Richard of Eagle Bridge, N.Y.; three aunts, Jane Ann Potter, of Bennington, Dorothy Mavilla, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Josephine Mavilla of Port Charlotte, Fla.; four grandchildren; Matthew Chenaille, Robert, Carolynn and Brianna Percey, all of Bennington and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Sean, who died on Sept. 11, 2006.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, Oct. 21, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington. The Rev. Deborah Estey of the First United Methodist Church in Bennington will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the family lot in Hindsdillville Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
