Mary "Mae" Fox 1924 - 2011 SHAFTSBURY Mary "Mae" Fox, 87, widow of Thomas P. Fox, a resident of Daniels Road, died peacefully on Friday, July 15, 2011, at her residence, surrounded by her family. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Feb. 14, 1924, she was the daughter of William and Mary Wallace Burns. She received her education in the Brooklyn schools. Mae and Tom were married in Brooklyn on April 17, 1948. They were frequent visitors to the area, especially Lake Shaftsbury, and purchased their property on Daniels Road in 1968. In 1986, they built their present home and retired to Shaftsbury in 1990. Tom died Sept. 3, 2001. For many years Mae was employed by John Hancock Insurance Company in Brooklyn. A parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington, Mae was a member of the Sodality and a volunteer at the church food pantry. She was also a volunteer at the Bennington Museum and a member of the Red Hat Society. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, William and Frances Burns of Brooklyn, and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME on Monday, July 18, 2011, at 10:15 a.m. with a prayer and from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington at 11, where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Burial will take place in the family lot in St. Johns Cemetery in North Bennington. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The Vigil Service will be offered Sunday afternoon. Should friends desire, contributions in Mae Fox's memory may be made to St. John the Baptist Church through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
