Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mary “May” Harris Chivelly Millard, 102, a resident of Bennington, formerly of Grahamsville and Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y., a homemaker, and retired employee of Nazareth High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., and five-year resident of the area, entered into rest on Dec. 30, 2007, at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation. She was born in Surrey, England, on April 26, 1905, to Ellen and George Harris.

Her son, Joseph Chivelly, who died in infancy, and her husbands, James J. Chivelly and Frederick C. Millard, predeceased her.

Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church of Bennington and a former member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Woodbourn, N.Y., and St. Thomas of Canterbury of Cornwall-on-Hudson. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens of Cornwall, N.Y., where she spent many hours of volunteer work, Senior Citizens of Neversink and St. Paul’s of Liberty, N.Y. Mary was a member of AARP, Tri-Valley Chapter 1604. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, playing bingo and watching the New York Mets.

Survivors include a son, James Chivelly, of Mastic, N.Y.; a daughter, Lillian Sarchino of Bennington; two sisters, Eileen MacLaren and Audrey Davis, of Surrey, England; seven grandchildren, Susan Booker and her husband, Fred, of Bennington; Dr. William Sarchino and his wife, Kathy, of Greenwich, N.Y.; Marianne T. Sarchino of Bennington; Barbara Billups and her husband, Robert, of Bath, Maine; Michael Chivelly and his wife, Lisa, of Suffern, N.Y.; David and Patricia Chivelly, of Mastic; 13 great-grandchildren, Katherine, Frederick and Margaret Booker of Bennington; Jeni Nagy, USAF, Persian Gulf; Robert James and Thomas Jackson Billups of Bath; Nora and Sara May Chivelly of Suffern; Christopher Smith, Michael Stiletto, Daniel Peter Priante of Mastic; Bridgette Sarchino of San Diego, Calif.; Christine Ritenour and her husband Cheyenne of Roseville, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer, and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
