BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Mary L. Sleeman, 75, a resident of School Street, Bennington, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, following a long battle with emphysema.

Born in North Adams, Mass. Nov. 29, 1929, she was the daughter of the late James and Malvina Samia. She received her education in the North Adams schools and was a 1947 graduate of Drury High School.

In earlier years, Mary had been employed at the Bennington Banner and Bijur Lubricating Co. For 17 years prior to her retirement in 2002, she had been employed at the former UST company in Bennington.

She was a member of the Women of the Moose and the American Legion Post 13 Auxillary.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Michael Sleeman and his wife Kathryn of Bennington; three grandchildren, Rachel, Matthew and Andrea Sleeman; a sister, Rita Swan of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, Henry Samia of Brockton, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Sleeman was predeceased by a daughter, Christine Seifert; a granddaughter, Lisa Seifert; a son-in-law, Matthew Seifert; and a brother, James Samia.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday, Feb. 10, at 11:30 a.m. with a prayer, and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at noon, where the liturgy of Christian death and burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday from 10 to 11:30 a.m., when the family will be in attendance.

Private committal services will take place at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
