NORTH BENNINGTON -- Mary Louise Pratt, 80, a resident of Bank Street in North Bennington, died Sept. 30, 2006, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

She was born in Utica, N.Y., on Aug. 29,1926, the daughter of Henry and Nellie Mae (Harrington) Rice and attended local schools. Mary was a community service volunteer for many years, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 13 in Bennington and a member of the Faith, Hope and Charity Group (VISTA) in Bethel, and was a devoted foster mother. Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed flowers, cooking, people in general and children.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Pratt, of North Bennington, to whom she married on April 1, 1996; four daughters, Donna Lee Locke, of Bethel, Faye Sawyer, of Montpelier, Kathy Irish, of South Royalton, and Cheryl Andrews, of Contoocook, N.H.; five sons, Dennis Sawyer, of Canan, N.H., Edward Sawyer of White River, Junction, Vt., James Sawyer of Morgan, and Stephen and Joseph Sawyer of Montpelier; two stepsons, Steve and Pan Pratt; 37 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Mary will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home 213 West Main St., Bennington. Interment will follow in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, Oct. 4, 2006, from 7 to 9 p.m. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Mary’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army c/o Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home P.O.
