Obituary Condolences

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Mary Louise Resio, 82, of Proprietors Fields, formerly of Adelphi, Md., died Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Palliative Care Room in The Centers For Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt.

She was born in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 11,1921; she was the daughter of Vincenzo Cocimano of Nissoria, Sicily and Marianne Cammarata of Leonforte, Sicily.

Mary enjoyed being a homemaker while her family was young and then was employed for 20 years and retired as a scanner in the Physics Department of the University of Maryland, where she measured images from the high-energy, particle physics bubble-chamber. Mary was proud of her Sicilian heritage and enjoyed speaking the native dialect with her husband, sister and friends.

She is remembered for her unconditional love and support that she always gave to her family and the unending love that she had for her husband, Gus. Mary will be remembered for her legendary delicious Italian specialty dishes and meals that she expertly prepared and served for family and friends. She is remembered as a compassionate friend to many, always willing to listen and support. Mary is remembered for the delicate flowers and fruits that she lovingly painted on china and her amazing sewing and crocheting skills that produced beautiful gifts for others.

She is remembered for her accomplished roller-skating abilities in her youth. Mary loved her extended family and enjoyed the times everyone was together. She was known for her keen intuition and helped her children to feel and understand the essential inner qualities of others. She will be greatly missed.

Her husband, Augustus C. Resio is deceased. She leaves a daughter Carole Hackney of Cincinnati, Ohio; a son John of Pownal, Vt. and his wife Leslie; a son Michael of Williamstown and his wife Carolyn. She leaves a sister of Adelphi, Md., Lena Reap and her husband Dan. Also five grandchildren, Kimberly and Leigh Hackney and Leigh’s companion David Moody, Robert Resio and Matthew Resio and Benjamin Resio, two great-grandchildren River and Ryker Resio, a nephew Daniel Reap, a niece Denise Reap and great-nieces Christina and Danielle Reap. She also leaves her dear friend Jack O’Keefe.

Graveside services will be held in the George Washington Cemetery in Adelphi, Md., on Tuesday, June 29, where she will be buried next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts in memory of Mary L. Resio be made to either the Rockwell Den Palliative Care Room at CLR or the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957, Bennington, VT 05201.
