BENNINGTON -- Mary McCrossan Maclay Percey, 91, formerly a resident of Percey Road in Bennington, died Saturday Aug. 6, 2005, at the Centers For Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.

She was born in Greenock, Scotland on March 16, 1914 the daughter of Thomas and Jessie (McKenzie) Maclay and attended local schools. She moved to Bennington in 1929 and worked for the E.Z. Mill Company in Bennington and was a housekeeper for many area motels. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, bowling, and traveling with the senior citizens. She enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles and loved watching and feeding birds especially cardinals. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bennington and cherished times spent with her family. She became a United States Citizen in 1987 with her entire family present for the ceremony in Montpelier.

She married Harry W. Percey in Bennington on June 9, 1935. Mr. Percey died in October 1978.

She is survived by two sons, Harry James Percey of Pownal and Peter M. Percey of Bennington; three daughters, Mary Jane Mattison and Deborah Matte of Bennington and Joyce Church of Eagle Bridge, N.Y.; her sister-in-law, Fannie Horst of Bennington; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, John Scott Percey; two brothers, James and Joseph Maclay; and two sisters, Anna Maguire and Jessie Howard.

Funeral services for Mary will be held Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Hanson Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington. The Rev. Norma G. Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Bennington, will conduct the service.

Interment will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m.
